precipitation water treatment

This refers to all measures used for improving the quality of polluted rainwater. The run-off from traffic areas contains various dissolved or un-dissolved pollutants (heavy metals, residues from the combustion process such as PAHs, PDHs, suspended solids etc.). These originate from air and surface pollution and are related to the type of usage. It is a legal requirement to prevent the pollution of waterways (see German Federal Water Act, WHG). In many cases this requires the treatment of precipitation water. A distinction is made between centralised and decentralised systems.
